Objective Corporation (ASX:OCL) Founder and CEO Tony Walls today announced he is personally supporting Objective Australia, the Australian team chosen to compete in the Selection Series for the very first Youth America’s Cup.
The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup will feature sailors aged between 19 and 25, representing ten nations, competing in the same high performance AC45 catamarans used in the America’s Cup World Series.
Tony Walls said, “The modern America’s Cup is heavily reliant on technology. It will be a fantastic event held in the United States technology heartland. Objective has a long history of software innovation and the opportunity to support Australia’s team to compete in the very first Youth America’s Cup could not be missed.
Information and video gathered in San Francisco, will be available back in Australia using Objective Connect – a highly secure information sharing platform– providing a competitive advantage for the young Australian sailors.
The Objective Australia campaign is part of Tony Walls’ ongoing commitment to the local community and to the development of the next generation of Australian sailing athletes.
In 2010, Tony Walls and international sailing coach, Traks Gordon, founded the Objective Future Champions Program to provide junior and youth sailors with high quality subsidised coaching. A goal of the program was to ensure that young sailing athletes had the opportunity to pursue their dreams and compete in high level sailing events.
The Youth America’s Cup will be broadcast live to a global audience using satellite uplinks, via YouTube and on international TV networks. This will enable spectators from anywhere in the world to get as close to the action as those on the San Francisco shoreline.
If the Australian team is successful in the February Selection Series, they will train locally before returning to San Francisco to take part in the inaugural Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
Tony Walls said, “We are focused, organised and committed to doing our very best. In 2013 Objective Australia has one very clear objective, to represent Australia well in bringing home the first Youth America’s Cup.”
